Harris, a6, of Buna was charged
with arson b•Qfore Justice of
the Peace James P. Neismith
Sunday, accused of setting fires
on forest land leased by EasTexf
Inc.
Harris was held in Jasper
County jail in lieu of the $3,0
bond.
Accused by Plot
Alike Boyett, a pilot for the
.Texas Forest Service, said he
was on air patrol over the
Southeast Texas county when;
he noticed a puff of smoke and i
circled lower to investigate.
He said he saw a man on
horseback riding through the
woods, occasionally dismount
-
,ling and setting fires—four in
all.
Boyett radioed for help on
the ground, and a team of `
eight, including three sheriff's
deputies, two Forest Service
workers, an agent of the Dei
partment of Public Safety and,
two game wardens moved into,
the area.
Pleaded Innocent i
Special Texas Ranger Billy!,
i Eaves, a Fire Service worker,
arrested Harris, who told the
.justice of the peace he wasl
' innocent. I
The Forest Service said the
i fires destroyed approximately
three acres.
